FROM THE WORKSHOP: RESTORATION TO INSTALL

Authentic Grosvenor Gas Antique Lantern Pair Install

AS ANNOTATED BY: CHARLES NEVINSON

As we were driving along the other day by a golf course in Atlanta, we came across these Grosvenor Gas Lanterns, that we supplied a few years ago, and they really do still look wonderful, burning brightly. These lanterns originally were made in the late 19th Century in England and exist to this day on the Grosvenor Estate in London. The Grosvenor Estate is owned by the Dukes of Westminster (the family name is Grosvenor) and encompasses the area around Buckingham Palace. Today, if you walk down Pall Mall you will see these lanterns mounted on lampposts in the street; when you then walk past St.James’s Palace and turn right towards Buckingham Palace, you will notice the same lanterns, but now with crowns instead of spires capping them which signify Royal Grounds.
